It is important to recognize that some of the reasons why change is so difficult is due to the inherent mission and structure of higher education. The focus on collaborative and collegial structure limits the fact that significant change cannot simply be mandated. No one will argue that higher educationisn’tunique. Having spent 20 years working in Higher education I can attest to the fact it isslow to change. Higher education institutions must seek to continually transform themselves without losing the essence of what makes them critical part of our society. The root question is does your campus have leadership that can lead that change?

A big thank you to Justin Paysinger for the invaluable knowledge during tonight's University of Louisville Organization Development Student Network (ODSN) webinar! We learned that the four pillars of development programs are crucial to the success of the programs: 1) Discovery & Alignment, 2) End-to-End Experience, 3) Talent Profile, and 4) The 4As (assess, augment, articulate, & advance). It has been an honor to be mentored by Justin and looking forward to learning and growing further.Session Highlights:- Discover the "why" behind your organization's development programs. What challenges is the organization trying to solve by implementing a program?- Align development programs with organizational goals.- Gain executive buy-in.- Closely track the progress of trainees.- Give continual support to trainees during the development program and beyond.- Monitor the recruitment and selection process. Adjust strategies as needed.- Continually assess development programs. Track the programs' ROI and make any necessary adjustments.- Gauge the outcomes of external partnerships on at least an annual basis.- Gather, analyze, and synthesize data. Highlight and address trends.- Monitor the health metrics of business units. Entrust trainees with the best mentors and trainers.- Create baselines and benchmarks, and modify them as programs mature.- Track duties, staff, budgets, and other areas of the development team. Leverage data to build out the team and/or grow the budget, if required to support expanding programs.Recommend ODSN members who were unable to attend the live session to view the recorded event for the excellent information.Thank you to all members, advisors, and allies who joined us during today's ODSN webinar!Deborah Murphy, PhDMargo NeetzJohn AbelAndrew WestcottMarsha WeobongLyncy YangJennifer StanglManasa Garimella, MBAConstantin RosenbauerJamie PowerTrina Johnson#developmentprogram #leadershipdevelopmentprogram #ldp #organizationaldevelopment #changemanagement #talentdevelopment #workforcemanagement #workforceplanning #successionplanning #traininganddevelopment #webinar #gocards

Workforce development experts think about getting people upskilled and into the workforce, but is enough time spent on already-skilled and employed people seeking education paths to the next level? Laura Aka takes a look at the adult education landscape: https://bit.ly/4fExm2D“Workforce development boards often think about career pathways, but they often think about pathways into entry-level jobs because that’s what they’re mandated to do,” says Beth Doyle, EdD, senior vice president for initiatives and solutions for CAEL, the Council for Adults and Experiential Learning. “They’re not often tasked with thinking about extended pathways. What happens next? And employers don’t always pick up that banner either.”#AdultEducation #reskill #upskill #LifelongLearning #TuitionAssistance #EducationBenefits #credentials #degrees #certifications #CareerPathways #ExtendedPathways #SkillsFirst #AdultLearners #SkillsBasedHiring Caroline McKinnon SkillRise Christina Yancey American Institutes for Research Michelle Cho Gladeo

In the Category:'BETTER' EDUCATION...There is a lot of 'TALK' these days about training and education. Both my mother and stepfather were educators. First in high schools and then as members of Eastern Illinois University's faculty. They were both proud I taught on an Adjunct basis for several years as an Instructor at Lake Land College. I was also fortunate to lead training initiatives on a wide range of topics as a full-time Human Resources professional.I have been BOTH the recipient of AND a witness to some of America's BEST training and education. I share the above perspective to simply state: THESE DAYS WHAT IS NOT NEEDED IS 'MORE' EDUCATION BUT --- 'BETTER' EDUCATION. Certainly less training or opportunities to learn will not work. Being trained HOW to learn rather than WHAT is just one key to a person's success. What is not working and will not work is LOWERING STANDARDS or --- doing away with them altogether. Discontinuing STANDARDIZED TESTING? Does anyone really believe having no basis in which to MEASURE performance will improve anything? How about revising the tests if they are not accomplishing what is needed?I hope the ABOVE causes you to pause and think.I hope the BELOW does as well...#educate #hrci #humanresource #planning
