Part 1/2 in Brisbane: WeConnect 2024At the start of this week, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend and very lightly support Dave Andrews in hosting the WEConnect International’s Regional Conference at the offices in Brisbane. A lot of the time, I got to sit, listen to some of the most experienced leaders in the industries discuss, innovate and drive the importance of diversity and inclusion. Most excitingly with the people that I met were already doing this in their jobs, businesses and positions which challenged me more in what more I could do in my role and position. Some of my key takeaways when it came to learning more about diversity and inclusiveness in business:1. Create opportunities and not barriers.2. Everyone has a wallet, they are just choosing how to spend it 3. It’s not only the right thing to do, it’s the sensible thing to do4. Practical idealism (Tara Anderson)5. There is more value than just looking at the price There is still a whole lot more that I’m processing and to think about realistically (and idealistically) what impact can be made in my position and what learnings I can bring back too. I’m looking forward to working with the connections that I’ve made and excited about progress moving forward. Special thanks for Elizabeth Vazquez, Mrinalini Venkatachalam (Minnie), Cheryl Gray and all the partners and businesses for making this happen. I can still hear Mark’s questions ringing in my ears: What if, what’s next, in 5 words or less…

Flew down to Melbourne this week to partner with Kinaway-The Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce and Supply Nation to run our inaugural Selling On Amazon workshop for their members and team in our new Melbourne offices. It was great to see the high engagement of the audience with Yvonne hom*oncik’s presentation and the candid discussions we had alongside Ryan James on how we can continue to support small indigenous businesses nationally alongside our partners. I’d also like to thank both businesses (Alex Martins MIML and Kate Russell) on inviting us to their trade show this morning with more than 80 businesses where I got to meet some amazing brands that I’m looking forward to speaking to over the coming weeks. I’m excited for 2024 and really looking forward to building on these partnerships. #smallbusiness #amazonaustralia #amazon #supportsmall #education #workshop #indigenousbusiness

I’d like to thank and acknowledge the Yolŋu people that gratefully hosted us on their cultural land on Arnhem and pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.I’m still trying to find the right words to describe last week at Garma. As much as it was a business trip, the personal journey is one that I think is worth sharing.I had the opportunity to learn, listen and absorb about indigenous culture over the 5 days. There were eye-opening experiences like the dance (bunggal), song lines (manikay) and ceremonies. There were serious talks about food security, education and housing. There were personal experiences on identity of what it means to be part of a mob and the modern world. It has been a while since I’ve reflected on how much it means and why it should matter. A lot was spoken about the referendum - The Voice - and what that would look like on either side of the decision. I do encourage more people to find out more for themselves before voting and what this could mean for Australian history no matter which way it goes.I have a few takeaways that I thought were really important:The hardship of having to walk in both worlds, ours and theirs. The difficulty is finding the balance between both and having to choose what is best.We often only have to deal with our identity on a singular level. It’s about the future generations and how we can blend knowledges from both worlds together to come up with even better solutions for sea, land and people.Listen with intent. Be willing to be curious and ask those tough questions that matter to make sure that get a better understanding of what is true and what matters. Be a vehicle for progress. Put ourselves in a position to support and build on what we have experienced so when it comes time, we’re able to share more with our network with truthful data and information.Lastly, I can’t thank the volunteers there enough who set up over 2,500 tents, a cinema and much more in just over 4 days as well as having some amazing Amazon people to share the experience with! What a week last week at Online Retailer. I got the chance to meet some great people, see some awesome booths (get some free merchandise) and do panels to hear from small businesses like The Sneaker Laundry (Eugene), Zena (Donna) and Givewrap (Michelle) where they shared their experience around Amazon and more generally about their unique businesses. It was also great to get our expert partners Airwallex (Justin) and Export Accelerator (Raj) on what it means to help Aussie businesses and how they continue to innovate in their own way as business owners. Last but not least, if haven’t connected with Nicholas, I highly recommend having a chat with him if you are thinking of partnering with Amazon Australia. He had organised our awesome booth and our partnership with Online Retailer. Please feel free to reach out to me if you’ve got any other questions around Launchpad or Amazon!Amit M. What a way to start off the week being in Brisbane! We had the opportunity to present Accelerating with Amazon alongside our amazing partners Sourdough Flakes (Karyn) and BSKT Wholefoods (Ryan and Ryan) speaking to their first-hand experiences as SMBs and part of the Launchpad program. It was great to collaborate with TIQ and Dominique Lamb around some of the great opportunities and support available to small businesses in QLD. If you’re interested to learn more, please feel free to reach out.Julia Steward Nisha Iyer Yvonne hom*oncik #smallbusiness #supportsmall #amazonaustralia #smbs #launchpadaustralia
