Saint-Robert - Tourism & Holiday Guide (12)

The medieval cachet of Saint-Robert's heritage is what makes this picturesque little Corrèze village so charming. Chosen as the location for a famous TV show, "Des grives aux loups", adapted from a novel by Claude Michelet, Saint-Robert will take you back in time, with its fortified doors, typical narrow streets and old lords' houses made from masonry stone, like the Noailles pavilion. Perched on a hill in the Yssandonnais, on the borders of Limousin and Périgord, this characterful place is listed as one of France's most beautiful villages. You can also take a look at its 12th-century church, the remains of a Benedictine priory whose choir and transept are a reminder of the Romanesque era. Inside there are sculpted capitals as well as a wooden Christ dating back to the 13th century. Near the church, be sure to stop by the Philippe Ranoux garden. It offers beautiful views of the green countryside all around!

If you have the chance to visit the village in summer, don't miss L'Été Musical de Saint-Robert, a classical music festival in July and August, where chamber music, vocal music and world music all come together.

Additional information

Saint-Robert

Medieval village of Corrèze, overlooking the shores of the Elle, Saint-Robert takes place at the edge of the Dordogne, next to Segonzac and Louignac. Perched at 345 meters above sea level, it used to have a defensive position.

Born in the course of the Middle Ages around his church, Saint-Robert develops over the centuries, becoming the tourist village that we know. The one called Bel-Air during the French Revolution is now one of the most visited sites in the region and is today ranked among the most beautiful villages in France.

Its authentic charm, its architectural heritage, but also its calm make it a must in this part of Corrèze. Dynamic, the village of Saint-Robert also offers several cultural and leisure activities throughout the year.

Things to see and do

Listed as a Historical Monument, the Saint-Robert church dates from the 12th century. If the building lost its nave during the wars of religion, it remains nonetheless pleasant to visit and unveils including a spanish Christ of the twelfth century.

As you walk through the town, you can also discover a wrought iron cross classified to the Historical Monuments, the castles Beauroire and Aragon, or the pavilion of Noailles.

Do not miss to stop in front of the chapel of the castle Verneuil dating from the sixteenth century, or facing the old stalls of the Middle Ages that line the cobbled streets of the village.

Maison Seguin, a beautiful building of the town, was amputated and remodeled in the 19th century around a staircase of the 17th century.

You can go below the village to discover the miraculous fountain which is the subject of a pilgrimage every August 15.
